Version 2.5.0: Capacity Aware Planning

Version 2.5.0: Capacity Aware Planning

We are thrilled to introduce Version 2.5.0, a major leap forward in how Release Planning handles forecasting.

Previously, our probabilistic release dates relied purely on raw historical throughput. With the introduction of Capacity Aware Planning, our Monte Carlo forecasting engine now understands the realities of your real-world team constraints. The system no longer assumes that a team’s past throughput will always be perfectly available. Instead, it intelligently discounts predictions based on who is actually working, scheduled time off, and work already in flight.

The result? Highly accurate, data-driven release dates that you can trust.

Intelligent, Capacity-Aware Forecasting

We’ve overhauled the analytical core of our Monte Carlo engine to ensure your forecasts map to reality, not just historical averages.

  • Real-World Adjustments: The forecast target dynamically shifts to account for actual team capacity, adjusting completion probabilities based on current work assignments and outside commitments.

  • Smarter WIP Modeling: Work-In-Progress (WIP) is now calculated as a realistic one-time delay rather than a perpetual throughput penalty, fixing standard stock-vs-flow discrepancies and tightening prediction accuracy.

  • Responsive Throughput Windows: We’ve optimized the throughput measurement window to the last 4 active weeks (anchored to the most recently completed issue), ensuring trailing dead weeks don't artificially drag down your forecast.

  • Opt-In Flexibility: Capacity Awareness can be easily toggled on or off per project in your Settings, allowing teams to transition to the new forecasting model at their own pace.

Team-Centric Capacity Modeling

Release planning is about people, not just ticket counts. Version 2.5.0 introduces a true sprint-planning paradigm built around named team members.

  • Named-Member Teams: Create and manage distinct teams and assign them directly to your products.

  • Comprehensive Absence Tracking: Seamlessly model team capacity by accounting for PTO, headcount changes, and public holidays.

  • Frictionless Holiday Management: Instantly import public holidays via CSV, which the capacity engine automatically treats as non-working days.

  • Global Readiness: The capacity calendar’s week-start now automatically anchors to the Jira user's specific locale.

Deep Visibility with the New Capacity Report

Transparency into flow and workload is critical for predictable delivery. The brand-new Capacity Report provides a dedicated analytical surface to monitor team health.

  • Holistic Flow Metrics: Instantly view cycle time, throughput, and WIP per team on a dedicated dashboard.

  • Workload at a Glance: A new workload-per-assignee table highlights individual commitments, complete with direct links out to Jira JQL issue searches for immediate context.

  • Transparent Math: Trust your metrics. The throughput value is now fully interactive—clicking it opens an explainer modal listing every exact issue counted in the algorithm.

  • WIP Slack Indicators: Instantly surface WIP slack under your Throughput metrics when Capacity Awareness is enabled, helping you identify underutilized capacity.

Frictionless Board & Scope Experience

We’ve implemented a massive batch of UI/UX refinements to make the daily acts of planning, scoping, and prioritizing smoother and faster.

Feature

User Benefit

Undo / Redo Functionality

Plan with confidence. The UI now records your last 10 board actions, allowing instant undo/redo.

Draft Releases

Stage, scope, and validate releases in a draft state before confirming and pushing them into Jira.

Smart Cascading

Moving a feature to a new release now automatically cascades all of its child issues, eliminating tedious manual updates.

Visual Prioritization

Epics now feature a three-color progress bar with absolute issue counts. Scope children now use clear "In/Out" lozenges instead of MoSCoW.

Context Persistence

The system now remembers your last-used prioritization method so you don't have to reconfigure your views on every login.

Streamlined Navigation

Enjoy a floating scroll-to-top button on lengthy issue lists, and smarter drop-zone logic where cards dropped into a column with a cutline bar automatically land above it.
