Enterprise Sprint Automation — Bulk Create & Auto Start/End
Stop managing sprints manually. Start managing the work. Enterprise Sprint Automation handles the repetitive sprint housekeeping your teams do every single fortnight — so they never have to think about it again.
What Is This App?
Enterprise Sprint Automation — Bulk Create & Auto Start/End is a native Jira Cloud app that does two things really well:
Automatically closes and starts sprints on every Scrum board you configure — on time, every time, without anyone touching a button.
Bulk-creates sprints for your entire organization in one sitting — perfect for PI planning, quarterly planning, or any time you need to pre-provision a full schedule across multiple teams.
It runs entirely inside Atlassian's own cloud infrastructure. There is no external server, no third-party system, and no data leaving your Atlassian environment.
The Problem It Solves
Without the app | With the app |
|---|---|
A Scrum Master or admin manually closes the active sprint every fortnight | Sprints close automatically at their configured end time |
Unfinished tickets pile up, requiring manual re-assignment | Unfinished work moves to the backlog or next sprint automatically |
Teams sit blocked waiting for the next sprint to be started | The next sprint starts immediately after close |
PI planning requires someone to click "Create sprint" dozens of times | One screen creates aligned sprints across every team in minutes |
Sprint names are inconsistent across teams | Templated auto-numbering keeps every team on the same naming convention |
Re-planning after a change means manually deleting and recreating sprints | Bulk delete and regenerate in seconds |
Key Benefits
Save Hours Every Sprint
Closing a sprint, moving tickets, starting the next one — even for a single team — takes 5–10 minutes. Across 20 teams, that is over 3 hours of admin work every two weeks that simply disappears.
Never Miss a Sprint Boundary
The app checks every opted-in board every five minutes. Sprints close and start on time, even overnight, over weekends, or during holidays — with no human intervention required.
Built for Enterprise Scale
Whether you manage 5 teams or 100, the app handles your scale. Large bulk-creation jobs (50+ sprints across an entire Agile Release Train) are processed asynchronously so Jira is never flooded and your users are never left waiting.
SAFe and PI Planning Ready
Purpose-built for Program Increment (PI) planning ceremonies. In one session, a Release Train Engineer can provision a full 12-week PI — 6 two-week sprints for every team in the ART — with consistent names, aligned dates, and working-day calendars applied automatically.
Secure by Design — Runs on Atlassian
The app is built on the Atlassian Forge platform and is designed to meet the criteria of Atlassian's Runs on Atlassian program. This means:
All data stays inside Atlassian's infrastructure
No external servers or third-party hosting
No customer data leaves your Atlassian environment
Least-privilege API access — the app only reads and writes what it needs
Fully Configurable, Per Team
Every Scrum board has its own settings:
Where unfinished work goes (Backlog, Next Sprint, or Next Sprint skipping the first — useful for IP sprints)
How incomplete subtasks are handled (carry the parent along or ignore child status)
Sprint duration
Sprint naming template and auto-numbering
Working-days calendar (skip weekends, holidays, IP sprints)
Whether parallel sprints are enabled
Who Is This For?
Role | How it helps |
|---|---|
Release Train Engineer (RTE) | Provision an entire PI's worth of sprints for every ART team in one sitting |
Program Manager / PMO | Enforce consistent sprint cadence and naming conventions across all teams |
Engineering Manager | Stop chasing Scrum Masters to close sprints on time |
Scrum Master | Automate the fortnightly sprint housekeeping ritual entirely |
Jira Administrator | One installation, one configuration page, zero ongoing maintenance |
How It Works — In Three Steps
Install the app from the Atlassian Marketplace.
Open Space Settings → Enterprise Sprint Automation Configuration, select your Scrum boards, and configure each one.
Done. Sprints close and start automatically. Use the Bulk Sprint Creation page for PI and quarterly planning.
