Hide Released Issues & Relative Sizing: How It Works

What "Hide released issues" does
Hide released issues is a planning-surface setting that excludes issues already shipped or marked released from the active board, burnup chart, and forecast. The underlying Jira data is untouched — issues are not deleted, archived, or reassigned. They are simply filtered out of the view used to answer "what's left," so the count of open work and the shape of the burnup reflect only in-flight and not-started issues.
Why completed work distorts a forecast
A Fix Version accumulates issues throughout a release. As work ships, completed issues often remain visible in the same list and chart used to track what remains — inflating apparent progress and total scope, and forcing anyone reading the forecast to mentally separate "done" from "still at risk." A probabilistic forecast recalculated against a cluttered scope produces a wider, less legible confidence range than one calculated against only the real remaining work.
How relative sizing works
Recalculated remaining size — as epics are split, re-estimated, or partially completed mid-release, the remaining size reflects the current state of the work, not the original estimate set at planning time.
Completed portions drop out automatically — once "Hide released issues" is active, partially shipped epics no longer overstate what is left.
Forecast uses the same filtered scope — the Monte Carlo forecast draws on this filtered, relatively-sized scope, so the p50/p85/p95 range reflects genuine remaining risk rather than noise.
